THE HISTORY OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH OF «DARK» TOURISM

Abstract

This article is devoted to the analysis of scientific research in the field of «dark» tourism in the world and in the Republic of Kazakhstan. «Dark» tourism remains a niche segment of the tourism industry, the share of which in the total tourism market remains insignificant. Limited popularity of this type of tourism in the country causes a low level of scientific interest and insufficient development of the topic in the domestic scientific environment. Due to the lack of domestic scientific materials, the analysis was carried out mainly on the basis of foreign sources. Within the framework of the research the aim was set - to study and systematize the international experience of scientific research in the field of «dark» tourism.
To achieve this goal, a theoretical analysis of scientific literature and publications presented in peer-reviewed international databases, including Scopus, was carried out. As a result, the key areas of research were identified and different approaches to the definition of the concept of «dark» tourism were analyzed. Based on the analysis, the author's definition of this phenomenon is proposed.
The obtained results will serve as a basis for scientific substantiation of «dark» tourism within the framework of the dissertation research, as well as for further development of scientific approaches to the study of its development potential in the country.
